With a dress code that simply asked revelers to arrive in “extraordinary” attire, it was clear Bergdorf Goodman’s 111th Anniversary Gala was going to be nothing short of spectacular. And that it was.
Walking into The Plaza Hotel felt like walking into a dream, art directed by the brilliant fashion minds and creatives that make up the legendary department store. Light purple clouds decorated the ceiling and decadent display of a menagerie of animals and mannequins dominated the stage, bringing the wondeland of Bergdorf Goodman to life. During the early portion of the evening, a procession of almost every single influential person in fashion – from models to designers to editors – formed as guests made their way from the lobby to the party, stopping every few feet to gush over outfit choices and toast to 111 years of BG goodness.
As guests including Anna Wintour, Prabal Gurung, Michael Kors, Peter Som, Martha Stewart, Joe Zee, Kelly Rutherford, and Coco Rocha, (to name just a few) mixed and mingled, a huge three-tiered birthday cake with fireworks rolled onto the dance floor, accented by Sasha Lazard‘s rendition of Happy Birthday. Sweet treats made their way around, including precious purple cotton candy, and the dance party got started. As the extremely fashionable crowd let loose to throwback jams like Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody, the festivities lasted late into the night. As we left, the legendary Bill Cunningham was still snapping away, capturing each and every single moment of the commemoration of 111 amazing years of Bergdorf Goodman!
